Religion has played a large role in shaping the ideas and beliefs that I hold. This is largely due to the fact that I am a Christian and these values are based off of what the Bible says. Conservative values and ideas often agree with many of the ideas that come from the Bible, where as many other views go against it. Because of this, the values and ideas that I hold lean me to having a conservative ideology and beliefs/values.

In my personal opinion, God gave us land to use and be resourceful with. Do I believe that because of this that we should go around and trash the land? No, I believe that we should be good stewards. However, I don't believe that putting a tax on carbon emissions is helping anyone, or that people who are trying to be 'environmentally friendly' are necessarily making an impact in helping the environment. People today rely largely on products such as oil and gas, and therefore trying to limit the amount they use is very hard. Also, it's not good for the economy. My dad works for an oil company, and therefore I have seen firsthand how important oil and gas is in our lives. Yes, we need to be careful with how we use resources and make sure that they are usable for generations to come, however, I also know that Canada needs the oil and gas industry, one of the biggest industries under fire from environmentalists. In this I see things from a more conservative perspective, rather than an environmental one.
My family is in what I would call the middle class of Canadian society. Truthfully, I don't believe that class has played a big part in shaping my ideology. Many of the reasons that I tend to be more conservative would apply regardless of the class that I had grown up in, so this aspect of my life hasn't played a large part in what I believe.
I don't think that my race has played an overly large part in shaping my beliefs either. It doesn't change how I view issues in society because I believe that all races are equal, and that issues can't just be put under the cover of a race. Because I believe this, my race (Caucasian) don't think that race has had a part in shaping my ideology. I also don't believe that my gender has played a large role in shaping my ideas. Being female has maybe caused me to see certain issues, such as abortion, in a different light, but overall, I think that the ideas that I have haven't been influenced too greatly by being female. Because I live in Western Canada, I've grown up in an area of our nation that often votes Conservative. I've grown up having beliefs that are largely based off of Conservative values. Also, majority of my life, the Conservatives have been in power, so I've lived in a country with their ideas and values. Because of this, my nation has affected my ideology and the fact that I have Conservative values.
